BBC Olympic Sofa

When the London 2012 Olympic Games were on, most of us were watching the games on the BBC.

Après Furniture were proud to have been given the opportunity to build the BBC Olympic Sofa for their studio. The design of the sofa was inspired by the Olympic Park Velodrome. The sofa has largely organic shapes and compound geometries and for its creation we used a layered cnc modeling technique to create the base structure.

We used birch ply as the material rather than solid hardwood because of the strength/stability and the minimization of waste material. The back rests were post formed to the compound curves using bespoke moulds, these were also used to form the curves for the upholstered back cushions.
