Wabbes quickly became known for his sensual use of the very best materials and launched a series of office furniture crafted from pear, walnut and cherry-wood. The timber was precision-cut and glued into wooden block panels to prevent warping, creating long sumptuous contours or a mosaic of richly textured grain.
All his products could be ordered in different sizes, materials or finishes. These were the foundations of the international reputation of his designs of simple form and timeless elegance.
Wabbes designed the interior for several Sabena aircrafts. A series of interior design commissions followed, including the International Science hall at the Brussels Universal Exhibition, the Royal couple's apartment on board the marine ship Godetia and the offices of the Crédit Communal or the Générale de Banque. In 1957 he won the Silver medal at the Milan Triennial Exhibition.
