Niels Jørgen Haugesen (1936) trained as a cabinet maker in 1956 and graduated from the Danish School of Arts, Crafts and Design in 1961. Haugesen was employed by Arne Jacobsen (1966-71) and in... Read more 1971 he opened his own design studio - from 1980-95 in cooperation with Gunvor Haugesen. Since 1976 Niels Jørgen Haugesen has been a teacher at The Danish Design School.
The furniture of Haugesen in both wood and metal are clearly defined regarding form, function and usability. Haugesen is working on designing a constructional idea and combining it with independent character, contributing to the visual experience.
Haugesen is strongly represented in leading European exhibition centres: The Danish Museum of Art and Design, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Danish Design Centre, Trapholt Museum, Stendelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Arts Decoratifs Union Louvre in Paris, Die Neue Samlung in Munich and Moma in New York.
