Wijtse Rodenburg (1949) studied industrial design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and started to work for Ahrend in 1973, as an industrial designer in the design group led by Friso Kramer.... Read more He has been industrial designer for Ahrend Produktiebedrijf Sint-Oedenrode since 1994. Alongside his position as in-house designer for Ahrend, he has been been a part-time lecturer in the Man and Activity department of the Design Academy in Eindhoven.
Wijtse Rodenburg has designed office chairs, desks, furniture systems, panel systems, tambour door cabinets and pedestals for Ahrend. He has designed Ahrend stands for trade fairs in Amsterdam, Birmingham, Ghent, Cologne, Kortrijk (Belgium), Madrid and Utrecht, and has provided advice on and made designs for house style, lettering on company vehicles, layout of company forms, signposting, photography, brochures, assembly instructions and lettering for outdoor publicity. He has won a number of ioN (Dutch industrial design) awards, among other things for his tambour door cabinet, Synta and Ahrend 404 table systems, S30 separation panels and Athos furniture system. His design for the Ahrend 123 storage system won him a Red Dot Award from Design Zentrum Essen and a GIO (Dutch good industrial design) award, while the Ahrend 800 table and desk system he recently designed won a coveted Red Dot ‘best of the best’ award. Alongside his work for Ahrend, he has had a number of subsidiary functions including board member and student representative on the Raad voor Industriële Vormgeving (Industrial Design Board), member of the Amsterdamse Kunstraad (Amsterdam Art Council), member of the 'Gebonden kunst' committee ('Gebonden kunst' or ‘Applied art’ is a Dutch expression for industrial design) with Benno Premsela and guest lecturer on industrial design at the Gerrit Rietveld Akademie in Amsterdam. Apart from lecturing at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, he held the position of study coordinator for the Man & Activity department at that Academy for 20 years. Since 2007, he has been board member and webmaster of the Brabant Organ Federation.
