"Good design is good business" - Florence Knoll
For 75 years Knoll has remained true to the Bauhaus design philosophy that modern furniture should complement architectural space, not compete with it. At Knoll, modern design has been the guiding principle, and a passion which has been shared with customers and design professionals worldwide.
Knoll founders, Hans and Florence Knoll, embraced the creative genius at the Bauhaus School and the Cranbrook Academy of Art to create new types of furniture and environments for the workplace. Their approach, where craftsmanship joined with technology through the use of design, anchors the perspective and shapes the values to which the company endeavours to live by today.
Florence Knoll developed the idea of the modern office and pioneered the interior design profession. 75 years after establishing Knoll the company counts with various landmark collaborations with pioneering modernists to bold contemporary designers. The contemporary design defines not only the past but the future of Knoll through active, recent, and future partnerships with designers and studios such as: Antenna Design, Don Chadwick, Formway Design, Jehs & Laub, Joseph D’Urso, David Adjaye, and OMA, among others.
Apart from the contemporary design which has been always the philosophy of the company, Knoll is also truly focused in protecting the biosphere, and in meeting the highest standards of customer service.
Knoll is a leader in policies and practices designed to protect the environment, conserve natural resources and reduce waste. All Knoll manufacturing facilities worldwide are ISO 14001 certified, minimising harmful effects on the environment.
Offering flexible manufacturing capabilities and a rich network of custom product resources which can accommodate any customer specifications, Knoll still honours today what Eero Saarinen called “the enthusiasm, the inspiration and the concern for human beings” that Hans Knoll brought to his customer.
